The lights shine brighter as Hung Chai stands in Taichung, realizing he is in a setting resembling the old district of Xiguan. The music of the "Children's Song Symphony" gradually begins. A group of children rushes forward, playing games. A group of boys is playing rock-paper-scissors. They even tap their wooden clogs in rhythm before throwing their fists (a mix of rock-paper-scissors and tap dancing). Hung Chai is caught up in their joyful energy and excitedly joins in.
In this song, I aim to capture the essence of childhood through nursery rhymes and the iconic street vendor calls I grew up hearing, weaving them into a vivid choral piece. One standout example is the vendor's clever phrase: "Peanuts just like peanut porridge." At first, it sounds like the porridge contains three ingredients, making it seem rich and hearty. However, in reality, there’s only one ingredient: "peanuts," as "peanuts" and "groundnuts" are the same. The word "just like" simply means "equivalent to," not "squid." This playful sales tactic highlights the creativity of street vendors, echoing modern advertising techniques across generations.
