
何博士於加拿大英屬哥倫比亞大學獲音樂藝術博士學位,期間屢獲殊榮,包括1987年PROCAN作曲比賽及1988年CAPAC作曲比賽獎項。
在電影配樂方面亦有卓越成就, 他為電影《麥兜故事》創作的配樂榮獲第21屆香港電影金像獎最佳原創電影音樂。此外,其大型合唱作品《宇宙的山歌》獲香港作曲家及作詞家協會2005年度本地正統音樂最廣泛演出金帆獎。
何博士於1994年創作了他的第一部合唱作品《香港街迷宮》。該作品使用粵語,題材取自香港四處的街道名,在當時是一部罕見的先驅合唱作品。回顧過去三十年,他已創作了7部歌劇,合共超過100首大小作品,其中大部分的靈感與根源皆源自香港。例如歌劇《石孩子之香港一日遊》、《香港快車》,以及合唱作品 《只有和聲》、《購物天堂》、《請勿靠近車門》、《功夫》、《麥兜狂想曲》、《一蚊一斤雞》、《藍色月光光》、《望夫山》和《飲早茶》等。他的作品啟發了許多年輕作曲家,激勵他們探索粵語合唱音樂的廣闊世界。
Dr. Ho attained a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada.
During his studies, he received multiple awards, including the PROCAN Composition Competition in 1987 and the CAPAC Composition Competition in 1988. Dr Ho has also made a significant impact in both film scoring and choral music. His music for My Life as McDull won Best Original Film Score at the 21st Hong Kong Film Awards. He composed his first choral work, Street Maze of Hong Kong, in 1994. Written in Cantonese and centered on the theme of Hong Kong, it is regarded as a pioneering work. Over the past 30 years, he has created 7 operas and more than 100 compositions, most of which draw their inspiration and roots from Hong Kong. Notable examples include the musical Hong Kong Rocks and Hong Kong Express, as well as choral works such as Shopping Paradise, Please Stand Back from the Doors, Kung Fu, McDull Fantasia, One Dollar for a Pound of Chicken, Blue Moon Lullaby, Ahma Rock, and Dim Sum Song. His works have inspired many young composers, encouraging them to explore the rich world of Cantonese choral music.
